AUGIS aims to inspire and promote excellence in supporting clinical practice, education and research for its members. We are delighted to offer a range of opportunities for Nurse and AHP members of AUGIS.

We are delighted to offer a range of opportunities for Nurse and AHP members of AUGIS.
AUGIS will award a number of educational and travel fellowships or bursaries. You may wish to propose a visit
to observe best practice in a Centre of Excellence in UK or abroad, to present at or to attend a national or
international conference or symposium related to an area of clinical practice or research. Clinical unit visits
provide an opportunity for Nurses/AHPs to attend a Centre of Excellence to observe best practice, gain
knowledge, which can be applied to their own practice.

AUGIS has announced the following opportunities for 2025:

  • 5 Educational fellowships. Individual awards to the value of up to £2,000.
  • The fellowships are not granted for basic training or study days.
  • Applications to observe and study in other units are favoured. Awards are intended to help with short visits and are not intended to fund long-term placements.
  • The fellowship will support travel and accommodation costs

Aims of the Fellowships:

  • To offer a valuable opportunity to gain an insight into an aspect of clinical care and/or research at a leading Centre of Excellence.
  • To support personal professional and career development and to enhance knowledge and skills through observing best practice for the benefit of one’s own practice and to enhance service development within your own Trust.
  • To support professional networking and collaboration with other hospitals or institutions.

Eligibility criteria for the awards

All applicants must submit the application form covering in full the following criteria:

  • Be a qualified Nurse or AHP in UK and Ireland with at least 2 years UGI clinical experience and be currently engaged in relevant clinical practice.
  • Be a member of AUGIS for a minimum of 12 months.
  • Have a formal interest in oesophagogastric and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, oncology or benign disease (as evidenced by practice, education and/or research)

Trainee Fellowships 2025

AUGISTrainee Travel Fellowship Award

All applicants must submit the application form attached covering in full the following criteria:
1.Applicant must be an AUGIS Trainee Member - or newly appointed consultant (1st year)
2.Provide a detailed plan and purpose of travel / visit.
3.Provide details of the skills and experience that will be acquired which are not availablewithin own unit.
4.Provide a breakdown of proposed costs.
5.Provide details on anticipated duration of visit
6.A letter of support from own unit to support their visit.


Applications to observe / study in other units are favoured but applicants who are topresent at /or attend overseas meetings will also be considered. Awards are intended to help support short term visits (between 1 and 6 weeks) and are not intended to support surgeons going to funded long term posts.

Application:

•All application forms will be assessed by the AUGIS Education & Training Committee.
•The successful applicant will be notified by the 31 January 2025 and will be reimbursed oncethe proposed trip has taken place and relevant receipts produced.
•Application forms are downloadable from the AUGIS website or directly from the AUGISoffice.

Conditions of Award:

The applicant successfully awarded a grant must produce a comprehensive report (a maximum of500 words) including photographs which will be featured in the AUGIS newsletter and be uploadedon to the website. Production of this report is essential to the award being paid. Please note that thefunds must be used within 18 months.
