North West & Mersey

Paul Turner

I am an AUGIS Consultant member, and have been for many years. I have attended Conferences and presented at AUGIS meetings.

I am an UGI and General Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with a specific interest in OG cancer and complex benign minimally invasive surgery including Robotics.

Along with a colleague, I have performed over 150 robotic UGI procedures since inception at our unit in 2017. I have presented Regionally and Nationally on the developments and results in this field.

I have worked in the NW region for 20 years as a Registrar and Consultant, rotating through most of the NW hospitals, and know many of the UGI and General Consultants and trainees personally.

The ethos of our unit is centred on training and feedback over the years has been excellent. We receive trainees of all grades and levels, but not infrequently ST8+. In recent years we have had trainees from Merseyside in a "cross-fertilisation" arrangement with Liverpool and this has enhanced relationships across the region.

I have been unit Clinical Director for the past 4 years and feel the profile of the unit would benefit from enhanced representation and membership of AUGIS Council.

I feel an engaging partnership would be mutually beneficial and I hope to be able to raise the profile and engagement of the NW region.

Summer Update

I was delighted to be nominated and elected to AUGIS Council as North West & Mersey Representative in September 2023. I would like to thank my predecessor Naheed Farooq for her hard work during her tenure.

I am an UGI and General Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a specific interest in OG cancer and complex benign minimally invasive surgery. Along with a colleague, I have performed over 150 robotic UGI procedures and presented Regionally and Nationally on the developments and results in this field.

Following on from last years successful events including the well attended NW regional AUGIS meeting, in Cheadle, I would be happy to hear suggestions from members in the North West as to what they would find useful from AUGIS in the next twelve months.

As a Region, we are proud to be hosting the 27th AUGIS Annual Scientific Meeting at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and look forward to welcoming you to the North West.
